Shipboard Science Immersion*: Spotlight on Lake Superior

Who: Formal and non-formal educators interested in Great Lakes science and education.  

What: GLEAMS Past President, Mandi Young, will share about the investigations taking place aboard the R/V Lake Guardian from an educator's perspective. Mandi will provide a brief overview of each project before taking a deeper dive into the specific project she is involved with. Each project has accompanying lessons that will be shared with attendees.

Project Topics

  • How zooplankton communities change from nearshore to offshore and from day to night
  • How zooplankton community composition affects larval fish diet selection
  • How water color and incoming light affect water chemistry and photosynthesis
